Rates/Trip Information
Your trip will begin at the canoe rental located near the Monticello Dam. After you put your canoe in the water, prepare for a fun-filled day as you float down the Maquoketa River. The trip downstream to Pictured Rocks Park is eight miles and should take approximately three to four hours of floating time depending on the river level and the stops you choose to make along the way. Some choose to paddle while others choose to relax and take advantage of the day stopping along the way at the many sandbars. About half way down, you will enter the spectacular bluffs along the river, and those with a sharp eye may see the profile of an Indians head in the high bluff. You will end your trip at Pictured Rocks Park. A pavilion, picnic tables, and charcoal grills are available for anyone to use on a first-come first-serve basis.
At McDonough Canoe Rentals, we want you to take all the time you need on your journey. The lush landscapes of the Maquoketa River offer many opportunities to stop and enjoy; therefore, we rent our canoes by the day. You can be on the water as early as 9:00 a.m., but we ask that all canoes are off the water by 6:30 p.m.

We can not accommodate walk-ins on booked weekends

Rates before Memorial Day and after Labor Day are all weekend rates, $30.
KAYAKS
$20 per kayak and shuttle
Deposit of $10 per kayak required.
INNER-TUBES
$10 per Inner-tube and shuttle
Advanced deposit of $5 per tube required.
*approximately 4-6 hours of floating
You must shuttle no later than 11:30 a.m - Groups of 10 or more tubes will be provided a garbage tube at no charge.
ALL CANOES AND INNER-TUBES MUST BE IN AT PICTURED ROCKS NO LATER
THAN 6:30PM. PLEASE PLAN AN EARLY DEPARTURE TIME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STOP AT THE SAND BARS ALONG THE WAY.
